The 2005
American Community Survey asked respondents who self-reported
speaking a language other than English to indicate their ability
to speak English using the following four categories: “Very
well,” “Well,” “Not well,” or “Not at all.”
Data is
published under the following four overarching categories:
“Spanish,” “Other Indo-European,” “Asian and Pacific Island,”
and “Other” languages and further separated by three age
categories 5-17, 18-64 and 65 and over.
