Risk & Protective Factors

Risk and protective factors in the social environment influence the way children develop. Research has shown associations between specific risk factors and unhealthy behaviors such as drug use, violence and criminal activity. Protective factors are associated with reduced risk of such behaviors. Risk and protective factor measures were also part of the healthy youth survey. The risk and protective factor results from the healthy youth survey are reported below. The survey asks questions about the school, community, individual and family domains.[1] The family domain items were not answered by a large number of students, therefore are not included in this report.
