Risk and protective factors in the social environment
influence the way children develop. Research has shown
associations between specific risk factors and unhealthy
behaviors such as drug use, violence and criminal activity.
Protective factors are associated with reduced risk of such
behaviors. Risk and protective factor measures were also part of
the healthy youth survey. The risk and protective factor results
from the healthy youth survey are reported below. The survey
asks questions about the school, community, individual and
family domains.[1] The family domain items were not answered by a
large number of students, therefore are not included in this
report.
