Best New Campaign Award Winners For outstanding first-year campaigns

Fortune Bank

David Strauss from Fortune Bank

Not only was this the first United Way of King County campaign for Fortune Bank, but its first year of business. Before it even opened its doors, Fortune Bank incorporated philanthropy into its culture. During the hiring process, CEO David Straus introduced the United Way of King County campaign to new employees, in hopes of building excitement. Campaign Coordinator Tammy Hanson, while working to open the bank, helped get the company's payroll deduction systems in place to ensure the ease of donation. The strategy worked, as 12 of the 13 employees at Fortune Bank donated to the campaign, including one Alexis de Tocqueville Society donor ($10,000 and above).

Intrepid Learning Solutions

Julie Miller from Intrepid Learning Solutions

Intrepid Learning Solutions ran an enthusiastic and successful campaign with many activities. Intrepid's Campaign Coordinator Julie Miller put together a team to raise campaign awareness, solidified management support and held regular informational sessions and lunch and learns. The management team sent weekly e-mails about the needs in the community and asked team members to contribute to the campaign. The strategy obviously worked, as more than 85% of the total campaign contributions went to United Way of King County. Intrepid Learning Solutions President and CEO Chris Hedrick supported the campaign not only by addressing his staff, and contributing to the campaign, but he also became a member of United Way of King County's Corporate Volunteer Council.
