Become a United Way Volunteer Reader

We have added some new sites to our Volunteer Reader Program, in areas where it may be more convenient for people from your company to volunteer: downtown Seattle, downtown Bellevue and Redmond. We also still need volunteers in Seattle's Central District and Rainier Valley, Burien, Des Moines and Shoreline.

United Way of King County is currently recruiting volunteers to read aloud to young children (ages 3-5), one-on-one, at select preschools, Head Start classrooms, and child care centers throughout our community on a weekly basis.

Reading aloud with kids on a regular basis builds their vocabulary, learning and social skills, and makes learning fun and meaningful. By simply committing a couple of hours a week, volunteers can have a profound impact on the lives of the children they help.

One of the best ways people can help to prepare children for success in school—and life—is to become a Volunteer Reader for United Way of King County. Please offer this volunteer opportunity to everyone at your workplace!

Visit our Web site to register, or for more information, e-mail readers@uwkc.org or call Carolyn Cunningham at 206.461.3656.
