Thousands of volunteers make an impact on Day of Caring

Day of Caring

Thank you to the thousands of volunteers who chose to lend their time and talents on United Way of King County's Day of Caring. On September 21, more than 7,000 volunteers provided an estimated $600,000 worth of labor at 366 service projects throughout King County. Their efforts will change our community in fundamental and lasting ways. Special thanks to our Day of Caring sponsors: AT&T, WaMu, Home Depot, Microsoft Corporation and Tully's.

Be part of a special event to help homeless people

United Way of King County and numerous community partners will be providing services directly to homeless adults and families at the Unite to End Homelessness Community Resource Exchange November 13 in Seattle and November 15 in Renton. You can help this event be successful by lending your time and talents. This is a unique opportunity to get personally involved in ending homelessness in King County. Recruit your co-workers, friends and family to form a volunteer team!

Get inspired by these creative ideas from Macy's

Campaigners at the downtown Macy's store are building interest and excitement for workplace giving in a variety of ways.

  • One campaign coordinator put together a bingo game using tools from the campaign section of United Way's Web site.
  • Another coordinator is holding a murder mystery with the head of the department having been murdered. Characters and clues are being sold, with the money going to the campaign.
  • Another one of Macy's events is a "happy hour" ticket. Employees who buy a ticket get off work an hour early, and the ticket is good for a specially priced cocktail at the nearby Mayflower Hotel bar.

Dunn Lumber's CEO leads by example

Dunn Lumber's mission since 1907 has been to build friendships with its customers, suppliers and the community. The communities where the company builds its stores are just as important as its customers. As a company, Dunn Lumber has been a huge supporter of the United Way for more 50 years. CEO Rob Dunn is very passionate about being involved with the United Way's workplace giving campaign. He attends the campaign kickoff meetings at each of our locations to show his support and the value he places in their projects.
