UPS celebrates a century of success
It started out in 1907 as the brainchild of two teenagers in a Seattle basement, whose fledgling messenger service made deliveries on foot or on bicycle. As UPS celebrates its 100-year anniversary later this month, it now is the world's largest shipping carrier-a $47 billion business with a fleet of trucks, an airline and operations in 200 countries.
Throughout its history, UPS has found that it grows by investing not only in its business, but also in the communities it serves. The company has been an incredible supporter of United Way both locally and on a national level.
UPS has twice won the coveted United Way of America Spirit of America Award. The UPS Washington District is a top 10 financial contributor to United Way of King County and consistently participates in Day of Caring. It also donated printers to the United Way of King County's Free Tax Preparation Campaign.
"UPS and United Way share a common goal of building stronger communities and helping people," said UPS Chairman and CEO Mike Eskew. "We are so proud of our employees who deliver more than just packages - they deliver a helping hand to their neighbors through our partnership with United Way and other charities."

Every year United Way of King County gives the Outstanding Employee Campaign Award to companies that run workplace giving campaigns with exceptional results. A United Way of King County representative would be happy to formally present the award to your employees at a meeting or other appropriate company event. This is a great way to build excitement and momentum for your campaign. Please contact Susan Bloch at 206.461.8330 to schedule an award presentation.
Legal community comes together October 4
The United Way of King County Legal Reception will be held October 4 at the Columbia Tower Club. This year's featured speaker is Superior Court Judge Richard Jones. The Legal Reception is an opportunity for the legal community to celebrate the strength and impact of its collective philanthropy, and to hear about the work United Way of King County is doing in our community. If you're interested in attending this event, please contact Susan Bloch at 206.461.8330.
