Champion Action for Kids
“One of the best things we can do for our future is to
help our children get off to a good start, and we each have a role to play,”
says Jon Fine, CEO of United Way of King County.
We’re fortunate to live in a community where many
people, including business and community leaders, understand the connection between early learning and future success,
but not everyone knows what to do
to help support young children and families.
To help business and community leaders move from a
general understanding of early learning toward becoming true champions for
kids, we’ve added a
new toolkit on our Web site, developed by veterans of early childhood
policies, programs, and politics at the national United Way. It includes:
-
a Powerpoint presentation and brochure that include
talking points on why it makes good business sense to invest in early
learning
-
specific action tips for a variety of key
audiences, such as employers, libraries, faith communities, health
care organizations, etc.
-
a resource library, compiled by the Birth to Five
Policy Alliance

Visit our Web site for ideas on specific action steps you can take to
promote early learning; encourage your business to
host a Lunch & Learn on early learning;
become a Volunteer Reader; or
contact a legislator and communicate the importance of early learning
for our community. If you have other ideas or successes you’d like to share,
let us know.
