United Way of King County - Early Learning

August 2007

Easing the transition to kindergarten

Another school year is just around the corner, and another batch of kindergartners will begin their journey through formal education. To help smooth the transition, United Way of King County is funding an exciting project to bring together schools, parents and early childhood providers to create Getting School Ready Neighborhood/School Transition Teams. We’re partnering with SOAR and Washington Alliance for Better Schools to support these teams as they work together to prepare children for a successful start in school.

Last year, there were 18 teams throughout eight school districts that improved communication and aligned how families, child care providers, early educators and school staff work with kids to boost their confidence and skills. As a result, 1,620 parents and 1,440 child care providers benefited.
