$13.5 million returned to community

United Way of King County provides free tax preparation and access to the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits to help working families increase their incomes and create savings.

In 2007, 300 volunteers dedicated 10,000 hours to United Way of King County's Free Tax Preparation Campaign and prepared 11,288 tax returns.

The outcome? We helped return $13.5 million in Federal Refunds back to the community, including $4.4 million in Earned Income Tax Credits. The campaign also saved customers more than $800,000 in tax preparation fees.

Our Free Tax Preparation Campaign allows low-income people to keep more of their hard-earned money and avoid paying unnecessary fess for commercial tax preparation and "rapid refund" loans. Being financially stables reduces the risk of becoming homeless.

United Way of King County supports volunteering and lists opportunities to prepare taxes, help end homelessness, get kids ready for school and more. We can help you connect. Consider listing your volunteer opportunities with us today to create a stronger community tomorrow.

The United Way of King County Free Tax Preparation Campaign is a collaboration of the Internal Revenue Service, Annie E. Casey Foundation's Making Connections Initiative, the City of Seattle's PeoplePoint: Bridge to Benefits Program and WIN 2-1-1. Additional support is provided by KeyBank, BuRSST for Prosperity (an initiative of the Northwest Area Foundation), HomeStreet Bank, The Boeing Company and many other partners in the public, private and nonprofit sector committed to helping low-income working people in King County keep what they have earned and build for their future.
