If you get... You are...
Social Security ELIGIBLE
SSDI (Social Security Disability) ELIGIBLE
Pension/Retirement income ELIGIBLE
Veterans Benefits ELIGIBLE
Earned Income from employment or self employment ELIGIBLE
Unemployment NOT ELIGIBLE
SSI (Supplemental Security Income) NOT ELIGIBLE
Public benefits such as General Assistance or Temporary Aid to Needy Families NOT ELIGIBLE

How Do I Get My Rebate Check?

  1. Look at the chart above and find your source of income.
  2. If your income is eligible, you must file a 2007 tax return in order to get a rebate, even if you normally don't file because your income is too low to require a tax return.
  3. Think of your tax return as your ticket to the refund. If you don't have a ticket, the IRS won't know you're there and you won't get the rebate check.

When you go to the tax site you need to bring the following documents with you:

  • Picture ID
  • Social Security Card
  • W-2s
  • Social security end of year statements (SSA-1099 and/or RRB-1099)
  • Pension/Retirement end of year statements (1099-R and/or RRB-1099-R)
  • Unemployment income (1099-G)
  • Bank account information for direct deposit

If you do not have your social security documents, please call the Social Security Administration at 1.800.772.1213.
