Volunteer Tax Preparers Needed

Register to Volunteer with the Free Tax Preparation Campaign >>

Help working families keep more of what they earn and save for the future! The United Way Free Tax Preparation Campaign provides free tax preparation services to help low income families take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits and avoid fees associated with commercial preparers. In 2007, more than 300 volunteers prepared 11,288 tax returns, returning approximately $13 million in federal refunds including $4 million in EITC back to the community.

Time Commitment: Volunteer tax preparers commit to one four-hour shift per week throughout the tax season: January 15 to April 15, 2008. Many shifts are during evenings and weekends and do not conflict with regular business hours. Volunteers are also required to complete a two day training covering tax law and TaxWise software. Training sessions will begin in early December.

Geographic Focus: We are seeking volunteers at all 15 free tax sites in King County. The need is especially high in Auburn, Renton, SeaTac and Downtown Seattle.

Skills: All necessary tax training is provided. Intermediate level computer skills for inputting tax return information are preferred.
