Organizations that participate in the Ready to Rent Program will:
- Receive training and materials necessary to teach the Ready to Rent curriculum
- Have the option of becoming an affiliate member of the Rental Housing
Association of Puget Sound
- Have an additional resource to give to their clients to help them move from homelessness into permanent housing
How does Ready to Rent work?
Step 1:
Staff from participating organizations attend a two-day training, provided by United Way of King County, to become certified Ready to Rent instructors. The Ready to Rent training curriculum is provided in English, Spanish and has been adapted for people with Special Needs.
Step 2:
Certified instructors provide the training to homeless and low-income individuals and families enrolled in their shelter, transitional housing or other programs who have stabilized their lives and are ready to reenter the rental housing market. Instructors and or/ case managers affiliated with the program may serve as a housing reference for graduates.
Step 3:
Upon completing the training, participants receive a diploma endorsed by United Way of King County, Mutual Interest, the Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound and the agency conducting the training. Ready to Rent graduates will then receive a directory of landlords who see the diploma as a positive step toward responsible renting.
In addition, graduates may search the Rental Housing Associate Web site www.NWRentalResource.com for vacancies and landlords that accept Ready to Rent referrals. Graduates will then go through the rental screening process required by a particular landlord, and hopefully, a tenancy agreement will be entered into. In addition, the graduate may have access to full security deposit funding if available.
Step 4:
Ready to Rent will conduct follow-up evaluations to determine the success of the program from the tenant, landlord, and agency perspective. Data will be tracked and reported by United Way of King County and Mutual Interest.
