Academic achievement
Your donation to United Way of King County helps youth succeed in school, graduate on time and be prepared to transition to higher education, vocational education or employment.
Community issues
- Education is the single largest predictor of future earning potential, and in America today, it is virtually impossible to obtain any type of substantial employment without a high school diploma.
- Starting in the year 2008, students must meet standards on the 10th grade Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL).
- Youth who do well in school are less likely to engage in risky behaviors throughout their lives.
- Youth that don't graduate from high school are more likely to experience poverty and an increased risk of homelessness and criminal involvement.
We help:
- Develop and strengthen academic skills
- Support at-risk students to make academic progress
- Enable parents and guardians to participate in children's learning
