Bianca Rivera returned to King County several years ago after having moved out of the area with her family as a child. One of her first visits was to El Centro de la Raza, a United Way of King County partner agency located in her old neighborhood. It was there that Bianca learned about United Way of King County's Individual Development Account program, supported by the Community Safety Net Fund. "When I first heard about the program I thought it was too good to be true. It didn't seem like anyone would offer a three to one match on every dollar I saved and help me learn to be financially sound all for free," Bianca said.
Bianca's zeal to make the most of her money didn't stop with the IDA program. Her next discovery was the free tax preparation services supported by United Way of King County. A volunteer helped her prepare her taxes and Bianca was delighted to learn that she qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit - a special tax benefit for low-to-moderate-income wage earners. "I've been in both IDA and EITC for the last couple of years and I'm so excited! I've paid off my debts and am saving for a house - something I never thought I would be able to own. I've got my eye on one on 10th Avenue. It's perfect -- my dream home!" Bianca exclaimed.
The IDA program helped Bianca learn how to be financially sound and supported her savings efforts.
