Many nonprofit organizations face limited time and resources to find enthusiastic and qualified volunteers. To solve this problem, agencies turn to United Way of King County's Web site to post their volunteer needs, whether it's delivering food to the homeless or planning a special event.

United Way of King County's Web site provides a web-based volunteer site for nonprofit agencies to post their organization and volunteer listings. It matches individual or group volunteer with an agency's needs free of charge. The Web site allows organizations to maintain their information, listings and inquiries via e-mail. And it allows volunteers to find the perfect match for their interests and zip code. United Way of King County connects more than 25,000 volunteers every year with opportunities to make a difference in their communities.

When Children's Home Society of Washington had a critical need for ongoing volunteers to participate in their child development centers and mentoring programs, it turned to United Way of King County for help. CHSW received numerous volunteer inquiries, ranging from teenagers assisting in classrooms to positive adult role models. These inquiries culminated in the agency recruiting several volunteers to meet its needs.

"This constant flow of volunteer inquiries saves our agency time and dollars on recruitment," said Trish Knox, community development and volunteer coordinator.

United Way of King County's Web site offers thousands of opportunities to get involved with the community -- from preparing children for school to helping end homelessness. It also matches community members with nonprofit boards. It's just one of the ways United Way of King County is working to solve King County's most pressing health and human service issues by connecting and engaging people in our community.
