United Way's Bridge to Basics Volunteer Program

United Way of King County's Bridge to Basics volunteers are stationed in the community to connect folks with money-saving services such as Basic Food (food stamps), low cost health coverage (Basic Health) and utility assistance.

In Washington State, there are many resources available to help people who are low-income or who are struggling financially. Unfortunately, most people don't realize that they are eligible for services that can help. For example, in King County more than a third of those eligible for food stamps are not claiming them.

Connecting low-income people with public benefits can make a huge difference. With this extra support, individuals and families can put food on the table, stay healthy and keep the lights and heat on in their homes.

Get Involved as a Volunteer!
Our next Bridge to Basics volunteer training and sign up will be during September 2010. If you're interested in volunteering, send us an e-mail letting us know and we'll keep you updated as to when training and shift sign-ups begin!

You don't need any knowledge of benefits to volunteers! We train you on everything you need to know. We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Are available for two hours a week for three months (October-December, February-April, or June-August).
  • Are outgoing and friendly.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Preferably can speak a second language (Spanish, Chinese, East African languages).
  • Want to help people!
