Meet Alexis, one of our newest VISTA team members. Alexis will be working as one of our Hunger Free Schools/Nutrition Hub VISTA’s. Wow, now that’s a title, but an important one to an important issue. Read on about her first day as a VISTA at United Way.

My name is Alexis, and I’m one of the Hunger Free Schools/Nutrition Hub VISTAs. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, I moved to Seattle from Ithaca, New York, where I was a manager at a natural foods co-op. I lived in Seattle a few years ago while getting my Master’s in Environment & Community from Antioch University, so I’m thrilled to be back on the West Coast.

My favorite part of my first day at United Way was visiting Fare Start, a fantastic restaurant with a great mission! Now in its 13^th year, Fare Start provides job training skills that help lift people out of the cycles of poverty and homelessness.

We enjoyed a terrific meal there and learned a lot about this great organization helping to make our community stronger!

They rely on volunteers and often have opportunities that good for individuals and short term. Check out what’s available and lend a hand sometime.
