Volunteer For The Free Tax Campaign

Volunteer registration for free tax is now closed. Read on to learn more about volunteering for free tax. Thanks!

Help working families keep more of what they earn and save for the future! You will provide free tax return preparation to taxpayers in the community, including persons with a low or limited income, persons with disabilities, the non-English speaking and those who are elderly.

Tax preparers commit to one 4-hour shift per week throughout the tax season (January to April). Volunteers are also required to complete a two-day training covering tax law and TaxWise software.

Intake volunteers commit to the same shifts as tax preparers, and instead of preparing returns assist clients with signing up, organizing their documents and answering questions.

Who makes a GREAT volunteer? People who:

  • have experience preparing their own tax returns and are comfortable with computers
  • speak another language, especially Spanish, Amharic, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Tigrinya
  • are willing to learn and enjoy working with people

Don't want to prepare returns? No problem!  Help at the intake desk, sign eligible families up for public benefits or serve as an interpreter.

If you would like to talk about serving as an interpreter, request outreach materials, or have other questions please email us at EITC@uwkc.org.
