The Sounders are #iStandForYouth MVPs

Last Sunday’s All-Star Softball Classic brought five current and former Seattle Sounders out to Safeco Field to play for charity. Zach Scott, Ozzie Alonso and team caption Brad Evans were joined by former players Roger Levesque and Taylor Graham.

It’s no secret Alonso also loves baseball – he threw out the first pitch at a recent Mariners game – and he played some fantastic defense on the field, including a stellar double play against Team Dan. While Evans won’t be trading in his soccer cleats for baseball cleats any time soon, it looked like Levesque and Graham have been putting in hours at the batting cage since taking on behind the scenes roles with the Sounders. Each hit a few dingers, which was especially awesome since Holland America made a donation with each home run!

Alonso and Scott pitched in to help fundraise, signing five jerseys a piece – all of which sold almost instantly – and posing for pictures with the lucky Seattle Sounders fans.

Graham and Levesque, along with chef Ethan Stowell as Goldfinch Tavern mascot Finch, turned the fifth-inning stretch into a dance party, donning costumes and bringing hi-jinks on the field to a whole other level.

In the end, Graham handily earned the game’s MVP, but he put it all in perspective when he picked up his trophy: “Anything we can do to help the kids,” he said with a smile.
