Alimentando al Pueblo Food Justice HungerCorps

START/END DATE: 6/17/2024 - 1/12/2025

United Way of King County is working side by side with communities to build an equitable future for everyone by ensuring that everyone has access to resources, quality education, enough to eat, and a safe place to call home. United Way concentrates on issues that affect the most vulnerable and on which it can have measurable influence. Under our priority of breaking the cycle of poverty, we are committed to ensuring that families, especially families of color, have access to nutritious food.

Everyone deserves access to nutritious and culturally relevant food, but hunger in our community continues to rise. Low-income families and families of color are experiencing hunger at unprecedented rates. United Way is working to fight this by developing and scaling high-impact strategies to reduce food insecurity. As a Food Justice HungerCorps member, you will support projects that fight poverty by increasing the sustainability of the emergency food distributions that began during the COVID-19 pandemic, which have primarily supported low-income and BIPOC individuals.

The Food Justice AmeriCorps team is a dynamic cohort of AmeriCorps members working in partnership with United Way staff and community-based organizations to connect families with the food they need. The Alimentando al Pueblo Food Justice HungerCorps member will serve directly with Alimentando al Pueblo, a community building organization that emerged out of the COVID-19 pandemic. This member will be joining a team ensuring that culturally relevant foods are readily available in the Highline Service Areas Latinx Community.
