Dignity for Divas Diversion VISTA

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Identify and facilitate partnerships with local hotels and motels creating immediate normalcy for the family experiencing homelessness. This position will drastically reduce the overall number of families who are losing access to permanent housing due to a lack of daily access to phones/internet and case management. This project will deepen the positive impression on the lives of the families experiencing homelessness by creating a new pathway to housing, and healing while removing deep rooted cycles of homelessness. Our housing supportive services will contribute to mental health resilience and social well- being improving coping skills among other immediate benefits.

MEMBER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, oversee and maintain new emergency housing partner relationships for pre-selected families experiencing homelessness. 
  • Identify Emergency Housing facilities and create registration and intake procedures.
  •  Implement site tours and identify facility regulations and requirements for partnership. 
  • Create intake record spreadsheet and facility move in activity projects.
  • Facilitate planning and procurement of food and supplies inventory, the care and storage of such items and meals for each family. 
  • Serves as a resource to staff in developing and implementing permanent housing opportunities for qualified families. 
  • Collaborates with perspective and current permanent housing facilities to expand available housing units.
  • Track resident referrals to community programs and services.
  • Identify and communicate program outcomes with DfD Housing Director.
  • Process feedback about program development and about how services provided increased housing outcomes.

Position Length: 12 months

  • Bi-weekly stipend of $1117.06 (pre-tax)

  • Loan deferment and payment of interest accrued during service year on qualified student loans (loans must be federally-backed; personal/private loans not eligible)

What We’re Looking For:

  • Hunger and poverty disproportionately affect people who identify with multiple intersections of marginality—including people that identify as Black, Native, POC, queer, trans, disabled, first generation, etc. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. AmeriCorps Program Eligibility:

  • Must be over 18 years old on the first day of service
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Unfortunately, F1 visas are not sufficient.
  • Must be available 40 hours per week. Exact hours may vary by site placement, but will primarily be Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check, FBI background check and National Sex Offender Registry Check, plus state of residence background check if not currently living in Washington
  • High school diploma/GED

Please note that United Way of King County is operating in a hybrid model. As such, be prepared to participate in interviews remotely and to complete service responsibilities in a hybrid environment (in-person and remote) should we move forward with your candidacy. Additionally, all AmeriCorps members must be able to transition from working hybrid to commuting to their site to serve 40 hrs. per week at any time during their service year. Service schedules will be based on your service site’s needs.
