The UWKC National Service Team supports AmeriCorps members working with communities to build a future where everyone has access to resources, quality education, enough to eat, and a safe place to call home.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must have completed at least one full term of service (including AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other extended service positions) prior to the position start date, and commit to serve full-time for one year with United Way of King County.

The UWKC National Service Team sponsors and supports about 110 AmeriCorps members each year. This includes about 9 VISTA members who are serving with internal programs and partner agencies to expand their capacity to end homelessness, give all kids an equal chance to succeed, and meet the basic needs of our community’s most vulnerable. Reporting to the UWKC National Service Manager, the VISTA Leader will provide support to the National Service programs at UWKC and partner organizations. Collaborating with the National Service Team, the VISTA Leader will be responsible for recruitment, professional development training, team building, mentoring, resource navigation, and ongoing support for about 9 VISTA members serving with UWKC.
MEMBER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The VISTA Leader will strengthen United Way of King County (UWKC) VISTA recruitment, retention, performance, program outreach, and evaluation.
- Through professional development training, individual mentoring, and resource navigation, the VISTA Leader will support UWKC VISTA members in successfully completing their service projects with community programs.
- Develop and facilitate high-quality monthly team meetings and trainings to support the VISTA cohort’s professional development and team building.
- Provide ongoing mentoring for VISTA members to increase their success and impact.
- Research and share resources to support VISTA professional and personal skill building.
- Coordinate performance evaluations and quarterly reporting for the VISTA cohort.
- Educate UWKC staff and community members about national service programs and their benefits.
- Increase the UWKC national service team’s presence on social media.
- Support recruitment efforts for all of UWKC’s national service programs.
- Represent UWKC National Service Team at career fairs in the community.

- Bi-weekly stipend of $1,155.14 (pre-tax)

ELIGIBILITY:
- Must be over 18 years old on the first day of service
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Unfortunately, F1 visas are not sufficient.
- Must be available 40 hours per week through May 2026. Exact hours may vary, but will primarily be Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check, FBI background check and National Sex Offender Registry Check, plus state of residence background check if not currently living in Washington
