No longer are Saturdays just for strolling at farmers markets, cleaning out your DVR and trying to beat everyone else to Costco.

Saturdays mean friends, fun and the chance for young professionals to flex their muscles for good.

The 20- and 30-somethings in United Way’s Emerging Leaders program have turned the second Saturday of every month into a day of volunteering with United Way and our partners, who are ending homelessness, giving kids an equal chance, supporting youth and keeping families stable.

Projects range from sorting donations for foster youth with Treehouse to planting fresh fruits and vegetables with Seattle Tilth. They rotate to provide a variety of activities and experiences with different organizations doing important work in our community.

Plus, Emerging Leaders are expanding their networks while they’re at it. The group is filled with young professionals from all over King County. They work in corporate Seattle, small businesses and nonprofits. It’s about lending a hand and shaking hands with people from all different industries, neighborhoods and backgrounds.
