DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate Black History Month and for an evening of advancing racial equity in King County. Come\, listen\, learn\, and take action!  \nOne of Dr. Martin Luther King’s greatest lessons was simply to listen. Can we intentionally build this practice of listening and empathizing in our workplaces\, places of worship\, within our families\, and across our networks? \nIn the latest installment of our Advancing Racial Equity Event Series\, we’ll discuss excerpts from one of Dr. King’s speeches\, a treasure that was nearly forgotten before being discovered on acetate film in 2008. Together\, we’ll discover how they resonate with today’s realities for all of us across King County. Our panelists include: \n\nColleen Echohawk – CEO\, Eighth Generation\nJorge L. Barón – King County Council\, District 4\nMarcus Boston – Glover Empower Mentoring\nGordon McHenry\, Jr. – CEO\, United Way of King County (moderator)\n\nWe’ll also enjoy performances by The Rhapsody Project\, a community that explores and celebrates music and heritage through an anti-racist lens. \nAs part of our racial equity journey\, proceeds from this event will go toward supporting and empowering The Black Community Building Collective\, The Indigenous Communities Fund\, and the Racial Equity Coalition. \nIf the ticket price is a barrier for you to attend this event\, please email us at eventregistration@uwkc.org for a free ticket code.
