In 2021 an estimated 40\,800 people experienced homelessness in Seattle and King County during the year\, not counting the significant number of “hidden” homeless people doubled up with friends or living in and out of cheap hotels. In “Skid Road” Josephine Ensign uncovers the stories of overlooked and long-silenced people who have lived on the margins of society throughout Seattle’s history. \nAbout the author: \nJosephine Ensign is professor in the School of Nursing and adjunct professor in the Department of Gender\, Women & Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington. She is author of “Catching Homelessness: A Nurse’s Story of Falling through the Safety Net and Soul Stories: Voices from the Margins.” \nIf you’d like to read the book before the event\, we suggest purchasing from Estelita’s Library\, a local  Black-owned library and community center.
