SUMMARY:Conversations for Change: Building Generational Wealth
DESCRIPTION:Conversations for Change: Building Generational Wealth\nJune 12\, 5:30 | Free\nHow do we build generational wealth in communities that have been historically excluded from it? \nUnited Way of King County invites you to a dynamic panel discussion exploring the racial wealth gap—and what it takes to close it. Rooted in our Bridging the Wealth Gap campaign\, this conversation will unpack how systemic inequities have shaped access to wealth\, and how local leaders are working to shift the narrative. \nCome to learn\, connect\, and be part of the solution. \nThe discussion will be moderated by United Way of King County Chief Impact Officer Regina Malveaux\, and feature the following panelists: \n\nEdwin Rios\, United Way of King County\nKorbett Mosesly\, Washington State Department of Commerce\nKathleen Hosfeld\, HomeStead Community Land Trust\n\nInteractive component: Mentimeter live audience participation followed by a Q&A session. \nGenerational wealth is one of the clearest indicators of economic opportunity—but in the U.S.\, it’s deeply tied to race. This event will shine a light on the barriers and opportunities for wealth-building in BIPOC communities and highlight the innovative ways our region is working toward a more equitable future. \nThis event is open to nonprofit professionals\, community leaders\, policy and systems-change advocates\, corporate and philanthropic partners\, and anyone curious about racial equity and economic justice. \nRSVP today to be part of this critical conversation. \nWe look forward to your voice in this conversation! \nUnited Way is committed to making all our events as accessible as possible. When you register\, you’ll have an opportunity to indicate any accommodations you need. Please note that a minimum of two weeks’ notice is necessary to arrange some accessibility needs. If you have any questions\, please reach out to eventregistration@uwkc.org.

SUMMARY:Volunteer - Help Families Find Free Summer Meals
DESCRIPTION:When school is out\, many families lose access to the free and reduced-price meals their kids rely on during the year.\nThe Free Summer Meals Program exists to help bridge that gap by offering free meals to all youth under 18—no paperwork or sign-up required. In 2023\, over 12\,000 kids per day accessed meals at more than 200 sites across King County. \nTo help raise awareness\, we’re looking for volunteers to join us on June 13 to place yard signs across South King County. These signs will help connect families to local sites where food (and often fun activities) are already available. \nWe’ll start at the Burien Community Center with a short kickoff—then break into groups to head out into nearby neighborhoods. \nHere’s how you can help: \n\n\nBring your car and help transport signs and volunteers along a route. \n\n\nTeam up with coworkers\, family\, or friends—you’re welcome to form your own group. \n\n\nPrefer to walk? We’ll have shorter\, walkable routes available too. \n\n\nThis is a simple but meaningful way to support access to food and information—right in the neighborhoods where it’s needed. \nJoin us to get the word out and help make this resource visible to more families.
