DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for our first Connect for Good opportunity — a unique volunteer experience for Emerging Leaders who want to dive deeper into issues they care about. Participants learn from experts on the issue\, roll up their sleeves and help out as hands-on volunteers\, and fundraise to support effective solutions. \nOur October Connect for Good opportunity will focus on racial equity and our Martin Luther King Jr. Day service grants. DESCRIPTION:A basic pair of shoes is something most of us take for granted. And yet\, it’s a luxury for many around us. \nJoin us for our biggest Emerging Leaders volunteering project of the year. Our annual Day of Caring project where we bring together 100 young professionals for a day of service. We’re partnering with Redeeming Soles to help them provide footwear to people experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are needed to clean\, sort and prepare shoes for distribution to organizations that serve the homeless population across King County. \nAnd if being part of the largest Emerging Leaders project isn’t enough… every volunteer will get a free ticket to our Night Out for Caring event on September 21st at Safeco ($40 General Admission). Fabulous food\, drinks\, music and fun with a few thousand do-gooders like you. And that’s a cost not covered by food stamps or other assistance programs\, which forces some families to choose between buying diapers and food. \nJoin a group of Emerging Leaders as we spend a Saturday morning supporting Westside Baby\, the only social service agency in the western King County area that collects\, inspects and distributes free diapers\, clothing\, cribs\, and safety gear for babies and children. In the past sixteen years\, they’ve provided $16.5 million worth of free diapers\, clothing and gear to help more than 195\,000 infants and children. \nWe’ll be sorting donations of clothing and toys\, filling orders\, creating clothing bags\, and bundling diapers. DESCRIPTION:Looking for something more engaging than a one-time volunteer gig? Want to learn a bit about our funding process – and throw a graduation party for preschoolers? Join our new opportunity to help tiny tots in our Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) celebrate graduation day. \nPCHP supports parents to become their child’s first\, best teachers so kids start school prepared to learn. The graduation event is a culmination of months of hard work from parents\, caregivers\, agency partners and of course the little kids themselves. Help us make this day extra special and meaningful for the families. \nThis ad hoc group of Emerging Leader volunteers will form ‘Party Committees’ and work closely with partnering PCHP organizations over a few weeks on planning the event\, preparing decorations\, giveaways\, managing roles on the day of the event and fundraising for the program. \nYou’ll have the opportunity to learn about early learning programs and their intersection with racial equity issues\, make connections with participating PCHP organizations and peers\, raise funds ($150) for United Way’s Early Learning initiatives — and most importantly be part of the smiles on our proud graduates faces on their big day. \nSign up to volunteer here.

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered what happens at the end of the day with the extra food restaurants and cafes have? Does it get tossed\, eaten by animals or composted? Maybe at some places\, but with the intervention and creative solutions of Food Lifeline\, good food from manufacturers\, farmers\, grocery stores and restaurants is now being used to stop hunger. \nFood Lifeline provides over 91\,00 meals to local food assistance programs and has found new\, sustainable ways to redirect surplus food to over 275 members in their food program network. \nEmerging Leaders will be helping to support this outstanding organization by assisting with the inspection\, sorting and repacking donations for hunger relief partners across Western Washington. \nSign up to volunteer here.
