The graduation event is a culmination of months of hard work from parents\, caregivers\, agency partners and of course the little kids themselves. Help us make this day extra special and meaningful for the families. \nThis ad hoc group of Emerging Leader volunteers will form ‘Party Committees’ and work closely with partnering PCHP organizations over a few weeks on planning the event\, preparing decorations\, giveaways\, managing roles on the day of the event and fundraising for the program. \nYou’ll have the opportunity to learn about early learning programs and their intersection with racial equity issues\, make connections with participating PCHP organizations and peers\, raise funds ($150) for United Way’s Early Learning initiatives — and most importantly be part of the smiles on our proud graduates faces on their big day. \nSign up to volunteer here.

DESCRIPTION:A pair of shoes is something many of us take for granted… but footwear is a basic need for many people experiencing homelessness in King County. \nJoin us in supporting our partner\, Redeeming Soles\, in their mission to create opportunity and dignity through provision of proper footwear to those in need. Redeeming Soles collects new and used footwear via shoe drives and collection centers and distributes them to men\, women and children throughout the Pacific Northwest. \nEmerging Leaders will be cleaning and sorting shoes at their distribution center to prepare them for distribution. DESCRIPTION:Westside Baby is the only social service agency in the West King County area that collects\, inspects and distributes free diapers\, clothing\, cribs and safety gear for babies and children. SUMMARY:Help End Childhood Hunger with Emergency Feeding Program
DESCRIPTION:There are a million people in Washington at risk of going hungry every night\, and the Emergency Feeding Program aims to alleviate hunger by making nutritious food available when and where people need it. At the King County facility\, donations are collected\, sorted\, and packaged into fifteen different types of food bags – from diabetic to Asian or Latino or East African to baby. \nThen\, the Emergency Feeding Program partners with agencies around the county to deliver the food bags and ensure that every family\, no matter their financial situation\, has access to nutrition. \nWe’ll be lending a hand in various ways – labeling\, tapping and cleaning collection barrels; sorting food in the warehouse; maybe even some administrative assistance to help ensure operations are running smoothly. \nSign up to volunteer here.

DESCRIPTION:Join United Way of King County Emerging Leaders in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in partnership with the Accelerator YMCA! \nThe Y is a nonprofit like no other. Since 1973\, the Accelerator YMCA has been a catalyst sparking youth and young adults to take risks to create innovative solutions to the challenges facing our city and our world. Last year\, Accelerator served over 10\,000 teens and young adults with its programs. \nFor this project\, we will gather at their Downtown branch location for a time of education and outreach. The goal of this event is to discuss the importance of MLK Jr.’s legacy and how we continue to effectively help those marginalized groups in our community. We will then utilize the time to watch a relevant and important documentary. The viewing will be followed by a group discussion and debrief. Following the facilitated conversation\, our volunteers will get to participate in the Seattle’s annual MLK march (which is right next to our Downtown location).
