SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunity: Pack the Bus: May 20
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that when school lets out for the summer\, many children lose access to the meals\, supplies\, and enrichment they need to thrive? To help bridge that gap\, United Way of King County is partnering with Communities in Schools of Greater King County (CIS) to launch Pack the Bus\, a new corporate and community volunteer initiative supporting students and families during the summer months. \nVolunteers will assemble over 2\,500 summer support kits for students across King County\, including select schools in districts such as Seattle\, Lake Washington\, Issaquah\, and Renton. Kits will include food\, hygiene supplies\, activities\, and resources designed to keep students nourished\, healthy\, and engaged all summer long. This is the first year of Pack the Bus\, and our vision is to grow the program to reach even more students and communities. \nWhile this is a partner-led volunteer event\, you can volunteer with our Emerging Leaders 365 group or make an immediate impact by purchasing items from our Amazon Wish List. to support the kits. \nIf your organization is interested in partnering or if you have any questions\, please reach out to Alexis Silva at asilva@uwkc.org and Carrie Bates at cbates@uwkc.org.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunity: Grow with us at Seed2Fork Farm: May 24
DESCRIPTION:United Way of King County supports nonprofits’ work through resources such as volunteers\, advocacy\, and funding.\nJoin us at Seed2Fork Farm as we prepare for the upcoming growing season! Volunteers will help set up the farm’s aquaponic system\, laying the groundwork for a sustainable\, soil-free growing process that integrates fish and plant production.  \nThere’s plenty of work in the garden\, too. Tasks may include clearing beds\, preparing soil\, organizing tools and supplies\, and getting planting spaces ready for spring crops. This hands-on project directly supports local food production and helps ensure the farm is ready for a successful season of growth.  \nSign up for our Emerging Leaders 365 newsletter  for more ways to start your year of impact! \nPlease note that these volunteer projects help serve the needs of our community organizations\, and the volunteer capacity is set to support that. If you need to cancel your commitment to a project\, please do so at least 48 hours in advance.

SUMMARY:Volunteer: Emerging Leaders 365 Committee
DESCRIPTION:At United Way of King County\, the pursuit of a more equitable community drives us forward. It’s why we’re committed to more than just meeting our neighbors’ urgent basic needs. We’re working side by side with communities to dismantle the systems that created these inequities in the first place.  \nEach month\, Emerging Leaders 365 come together to roll up their sleeves at volunteer projects\, connect with local leaders who care about giving back\, and build connections at issue-focused events. This isn’t just a group. It’s a community of like-minded young professionals that fosters a sense of belonging and creates an unforgettable vibe. Join the committee and help make United Way’s mission possible! First round of applications closes on July 1. \nAbout the United Way Emerging Leaders 365 Committee  \nEmerging Leaders 365 Committee members are responsible for growing and strengthening the Emerging Leaders program to ensure that United Way is relevant to the next generation of supporters. As an Emerging Leaders 365 Committee member\, you will be an ambassador for the program\, representing United Way in the community and encouraging your peers to get involved through giving\, volunteering\, and event participation. Below is a breakdown of activities you’ll engage in (averaging 3-4 hours a month)  \n15%: Lead Volunteer Activities in the Community \n\nUnited Way works side-by-side with over 100 local nonprofits across King County. \nYou’ll co-lead these volunteer activities by liaising with the nonprofit organization and meeting volunteers on-site. \nHelp us reach new people by inviting your networks and making sure everyone feels ready to roll up their sleeves and make an impact. At each committee meeting\, we’ll debrief and strategize\, building stronger community connections throughout the term.   \n\n15%: Emcee a Networking Event  \n\nIt takes time to pull off a Happy Hour & Hellos. Our Program Manager will work behind the scenes to get all our ducks in a row\, but not without your invaluable input.   \nHelp make the experience memorable by sharing why you are involved and rallying attendees to take action. \n\n20%: Social Media Ambassador  \n\nLet’s face it\, we’re all on at least one platform. \nWhen you share a post that you’re tagged in\, we triple our reach. \nAdditionally\, this year\, we are also looking for someone who could lead the team in capturing content for our ambassador-run Instagram page: @emerging365 \n\n30%: Create your Own Event/Fundraiser  \n\nPut the “fun” in fundraiser. \nDon’t let the word fundraiser scare you! Over the years\, organizations have helped us host dance classes or karaoke nights\, with the class price helping feed and house our neighbors.  \nThis is your chance to involve your network in your favorite pastimes for a good cause\, and we’ll guide you along the way. Check out some previous fundraising pages! \n\n15%: Outreach  \n\nRaise your hand to table at a community festival. \nWe provide a huge prize wheel and fun items. You tell folks about Emerging Leaders 365\, take their contact information\, and give them the joy of winning a branded take-away. (approximately 3 events/term planned). \nKnow of any places we should show up in the community? Let’s do it together. Shape the future of Emerging Leaders 365 by bringing your whole self to our monthly committee meetings and touchpoints.  \n\n5%: Giving  \n\nGive or raise $365 or more to United Way annually as an Emerging Leaders 365 member! \nThe committee is proud to lead peer-to-peer fundraisers each term. \nThe committee collectively contributes to the silent auction item collection. \n\nApplications are open through July 1\, 2026. You can apply here. Email kdunn@uwkc.org if you have any questions or concerns.
