It is unacceptable that so many kids and families experience homelessness\, but with your support\, we can help even more families reach housing stability. \nVolunteers will help greet families\, provide navigation at the event\, support resource stations and help create a warm and welcoming environment. All volunteers will get an information packet prior to the event and their volunteer role day of the event.

SUMMARY:Work with ELL Students at Vietnamese Friendship Association
DESCRIPTION:Refugee and immigrant youth experience tremendous barriers to success and self-sufficiency. These youth are usually one or more years behind their native English-speaking peers\, which negatively impacts their self-esteem and learning outcomes. Vietnamese Friendship Association works to mitigate these disparities by providing an after school program\, Saturday English School and Summer Science Academy for youth at Seattle World School. Students who have participated in VFA’s academic programs have made strong academic gains. Over 85% of students have increased their math and English scores by the equivalent of half a grade level—as measured by standardized tests. \nEmerging Leaders will help at Vietnamese Friendship Association’s Saturday English School. That’s where you can make a difference as an Emerging Leader. Join us on Saturday\, September 7\, to roll up your sleeves alongside 100 other young professionals to do good and support people experiencing homelessness in our community. \nThis isn’t just another Emerging Leaders project – you will join more than 12\,000 do-gooders volunteering across Seattle for United Way of King County’s Day of Caring 2019. \nWe look forward to showing up for our community in a big way with Redeeming Soles- Emerging Leaders will be cleaning and sorting shoes to prepare them for distribution to the people who need them most. Don’t be afraid to clean out your closet and bring a couple of shoes to donate! \n

DESCRIPTION:Help deep clean and paint the FareStart Restaurant Kitchen so that it matches the beautifully remodeled restaurant space. Volunteers will deep clean the kitchen and then paint it! \nThe FareStart Restaurant is where Adult Culinary students practice and perfect their food service skills by serving around 200 lunches per day to the Seattle community. This volunteer opportunity will ensure that their learning space is clean and up-to-date and that our kitchen space matches the beautifully refreshed restaurant space.

SUMMARY:Help United Way Prep for the Family Resource Exchange
DESCRIPTION:United Way’s Family Resource Exchange events lessen the heavy burden of homelessness by connecting families to housing and providing other specific resources families need. Services include financial support programs and public benefits for families\, child care resources\, on-the-spot job interviews\, haircuts\, new shoes and a food bank. \nEmerging Leaders will help prepare supplies for the upcoming Family Resource Exchange. There is a giveaway area at the event\, which has large quantities of free groceries\, hygiene materials\, clothes\, shoes\, and school supplies. It is a big haul from the United Way team to get everything ready and set-up for the event\, which is why we need the support of volunteers to prep everything. Tasks will include (1) consolidating and organizing giveaways into boxes of like-items\, (2) assembling and organizing event signage\, (3) organizing supplies by event area\, (4) creating giveaway bags for service providers\, (5) moving supplies for easy load-out.

For every volunteer we bring to the race\, Rock ‘n’ Roll will pay it back with a $20 donation to United Way! DESCRIPTION:Calling all party planners! Help us celebrate graduation day for tiny tots in our Parent-Child Home Program(PCHP). \nUnited Way’s Parent-Child Home Program empowers parents to become their child’s first\, best teachers so kids start school prepared to learn. It zeroes in on the kindergarten preparation gap during the crucial early years of children’s development with long-term benefits to the community. \nJoin our Connect for Good: Help Students Graduate and you’ll form party committees to support graduation events for pre-K students at our partnering PCHP organizations. Volunteers will work closely with a PCHP staff member on planning the event\, preparing decorations\, securing giveaways\, managing roles on the day of the event and fundraising for the program. \nEmerging Leader volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about early learning programs and their intersection with racial equity issues\, make connections with participating PCHP organizations and peers\, and raise funds for United Way’s early learning initiatives.
