SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunity: Support El Centro de la Raza
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate our continued partnership with El Centro de la Raza\, a community organization rooted in the Latino community!\nCome craft flowers and organize auction items on Saturday\, September 26th\, for their annual Building the Beloved Community Gala. Be part of an exciting event that raises funds for 43 programs and services that benefit more than 20\,000 individuals and families across our region. \nThis event will take place at the Seattle Convention Center on the 5th floor. Together\, our small efforts can create a large impact\, especially at a time when rising costs and growing attacks against Latino and Hispanic communities are making this work more important than ever. \nTasks will include decorating the dining room\, helping set up the silent auction\, setting up the registration tables\, and helping with the photo booth. \nThis volunteer project will help serve the needs of our community. If you are no longer able to make it\, please cancel at least 48 hours in advance. Don’t worry\, your project leader will send you reminders ahead of the volunteer opportunity.    \nLet’s celebrate culture and fight for equality as we help El Centro de la Raza prepare for another season of giving back to the community. \nThis opportunity is hosted by our Emerging Leaders 365 young professionals who are celebrating 10 years of impact with organizations like El Centro de la Raza! We look forward to welcoming you\, and all are invited to volunteer! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Advocacy in Action: Support United Way at Seattle City Hall
DESCRIPTION:Advocate for Free Tax Prep Campaign Funding\nBackground:\nThe Seattle Mayor’s office recently released its 2027-2028 proposed budget\, and over the next two months\, the City Council will weigh community input as it decides what to prioritize before the budget is finalized around November 20th.  \nThe proposed budget funds many exciting programs that support our neighbors\, but unfortunately\, it does not include a key funding source for United Way’s free tax preparation services in Seattle. We’re trying to change that\, and we could use your help! \nWhat to Expect:\nJoin us at City Hall at 4:30 PM on 11/5\, wearing a United Way shirt if you have one! We’ll try to have some additional sizes available\, but it’s completely OK if we aren’t all wearing matching shirts. \nOnce we arrive\, we’ll go through security and find seating in the audience. United Way of King County and a few of our community partners will take the microphone during public testimony to speak about the city budget and the importance of approximately $110\,000 in funding for our 2027 free tax preparation campaign. \nOur team and partners will be the ones speaking\, so you do not need to prepare anything or speak yourself. We’re asking you to join us as a supportive audience and help show that this work has people behind it. \nWhile we wait for our turn\, you’ll also hear from other community members and organizations sharing what they need from the city budget. It’s a chance to see democracy and advocacy in action and to show up together for United Way and the community we serve. \nCan’t make it in person?\nWe can still use your help! Use the council email to send a message directly to all of Seattle councilmembers: council@seattle.gov
