SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Making Community Impact: March 16 and 21
DESCRIPTION:United Way of King County supports nonprofits’ work through resources such as volunteers\, advocacy\, and funding.\nThis Volunteer Month\, you have the power to make an impact! United Way of King County is inviting volunteers to help select which nonprofit organizations will receive funding to host a volunteer opportunity in April. No prior grant experience is needed; we’ll guide you through the process! \nNote that this is a multiple-day volunteering opportunity\, and participants will need to commit to the following schedule: \n\nSession 1: March 16 at 6 p.m.: Join us virtually to explore grant-making from the inside out with a community services expert. A meeting invitation will be sent to all registrants prior to the session.\nSession 2: March 21 at 10:30 a.m.: Join us in-person at El Centro De La Raza to review applications and help decide which projects receive funding.\n\nThis is a great way to see behind the scenes of grantmaking and ensure that community-led volunteer opportunities receive the support they need. By signing up for this project\, you are committing to participating in both sessions and reviewing grant applications between the first and second meetings.

SUMMARY:Pack the Bus: May 20
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that when school lets out for the summer\, many children lose access to the meals\, supplies\, and enrichment they need to thrive? To help bridge that gap\, United Way of King County is partnering with Communities in Schools of Greater King County (CIS) to launch Pack the Bus\, a new corporate and community volunteer initiative supporting students and families during the summer months. \nVolunteers will assemble over 2\,500 summer support kits for students across King County\, including select schools in districts such as Seattle\, Lake Washington\, Issaquah\, and Renton. Kits will include food\, hygiene supplies\, activities\, and resources designed to keep students nourished\, healthy\, and engaged all summer long. This is the first year of Pack the Bus\, and our vision is to grow the program to reach even more students and communities. \nWhile this is a partner-led volunteer event\, you can volunteer with our Emerging Leaders 365 group or make an immediate impact by purchasing items from our Amazon Wish List. to support the kits. \nIf your organization is interested in partnering or if you have any questions\, please reach out to Alexis Silva at asilva@uwkc.org and Carrie Bates at cbates@uwkc.org.
