Kim has been with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for two years and works as a Senior Program Assistant within the Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion team.  Prior to joining the Gates Foundation\, Kim worked as the External Affairs Director for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe where she was part of the Chairman’s administration\, Kim served as the liaison for state and federal agencies.  Kim started her career at the unbeknownst company at the time\, TOMS Shoes\, where she was one of 12 interns and 13 employees. Kim places high value on family and on her culture and its customs and traditions. \n  \nAllison Spooner is the HR and Equity Manager at Washington Sea Grant\, University of Washington where she has built a strong foundation in training design\, relationship building\, and conflict resolution\, all driven by her passion for creating meaningful and sustained change. \nAs the daughter of immigrant parents and a first-generation college graduate\, Allison’s commitment to civic engagement is deeply personal. \nA pivotal organization in Allison’s development over the last two years has been Success Cohorts\, which helps early-career individuals become the next generation of leaders. As a first-generation professional\, Allison found the skills and insights from this program incredibly valuable\, and she continues to apply them in her career today. \n  \nAmanda Sandoval is a proud 1.5 generation Mexican American\, born and raised in Washington state\, and has a background in community organizing and policy and a passion for getting all communities involved in advocacy. \nShe is the director of systems change and public policy at United Way of King County\, where she works on statewide\, federal\, and local policy. She also supports BIPOC-led system change\, by investing and partnering with our BIPOC communities that are doing community-led advocacy to create fundamental changes in how policy is made and making sure the community has a voice. Amanda also serves in the US Air Force Reserves\, doing air transportation and logistics. \nShe is deeply rooted in her community and identity and believes our collective experiences\, different and same\, are what makes us powerful and authentically ourselves. \n  \nEvent schedule:\n5 p.m.        Doors open. It’s also life experience\, and work experience.” \nIn addition to her CityClub duties\, Crank has joined Seattle magazine as the new “director of opportunities.” In her new role\, Crank will serve as a community ambassador for the publication\, and will help identify both revenue and engagement opportunities. \n  \n \nJulie Wise was first elected in 2015. Her election followed a long career with King County Elections that began in 2000 when Julie was hired to answer voter questions and provide assistance in the phone bank. In the years between\, Julie worked her way up to Deputy Director\, with time spent in nearly every work area. In her more than twenty years of service to voters\, Julie has earned both her state and national certifications in election administration. \nA champion for increasing both accessibility and security\, Julie is dedicated to removing barriers to voting\, while maintaining accuracy\, security\, and transparency. She has been a vocal advocate for expanding language access and has been successful in adding four non-English languages to King County Elections’ suite of full-service languages. The department now provides ballots\, voting materials\, all correspondence\, customer service\, and voter education materials in seven languages.

His experience growing up in a society torn by war and navigating a new country fuels his personal and professional commitment to serving his community. Volunteer with youth at Coyote Central\, children at risk of homelessness at Birthday Dreams\, and/or help families in need of shelter and basic needs items. \n  \nWhen you come to two or more volunteer month projects\, you’ll receive free tickets to our next Happy Hour & Hellos event\, complete with drink tokens and prizes. \n  \nJoin us on April 13th for a monthly volunteer opportunity to support Birthday Dreams. Birthday Dreams provides a dream birthday to homeless children ages 1 to 18 years. In 2018 over 40\,000 school age children were homeless in Washington State. Of those\, only 13% were living in shelters*. The rest are living on the street\, in cars\, couch surfing with friends or family\, and in group foster homes. We meet with local\, and state elected officials\, and members of Congress—during and outside legislative sessions asking lawmakers to ensure adequate funding streams to proactively create equitable access to a high quality of life and resources for all people. We also participate in coalitions and advocacy groups that meet with legislators and lobbyists so we can learn from each other about the latest work. \nJoin United Way supporters in Olympia for the 2024 Lobby Day\, as we urge policymakers to meet post-secondary students’ basic needs for navigation\, food\, housing\, mental and behavioral healthcare\, and childcare. You will have the chance to learn about Advocacy 101\, learn about this year’s legislative priorities for United Way and the Post Secondary Basic Needs (PSBN) Coalition\, hear directly from student representatives from the Washington Students Association and meet with your district legislators to share your views. \nNo prior advocacy experience is needed. DESCRIPTION:Volunteer and Learn is an opportunity for a more in-depth volunteer experience. Participants learn from experts on the issue\, then roll up their sleeves and help out as hands-on volunteers. \nHave you ever wondered how United Way (and other funders) decide which nonprofit organizations will receive grants? Explore grant-making from the inside out with a community services expert and work with fellow volunteers to select nonprofit agency recipients for service grants. These grants will support volunteering projects on or around Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January 2024. \nNote that this is a multiple day volunteering opportunity and participants will need to commit to the following schedule: \nWednesday 11/15 (6:15-7:15PM)\, virtual. They provide fresh\, healthy\, nutritious\, and culturally sensitive food to more than 8\,000 guests a year. \n  \nVolunteer: \n\nWe will be helping Rainer Valley Food Bank by supporting their in service food bank and assisting in site beautification!!\nVolunteer duties will include – setting up food distribution\, stocking non-perishable foods on shelves\, helping guests load items into bags\, greeting guests\, and more.\nAdditional help is needed to create a welcoming environment for our neighbors struggling with food insecurities by trimming plants and re-organizing food storage areas.\n\n  \nMeet Your Volunteer Lead\n \nJenny\n“I support the United Way because I want to be able to help our community in a way that aligns with my own personal values and beliefs.
