SUMMARY:Volunteer - Support El Centro de la Raza
DESCRIPTION:Come craft flowers and organize auction items on Saturday\, October 11th.\nWe are celebrating a continued partnership with El Centro de la Raza\, a community organization rooted in the Latino community\, as we work side-by-side to build a more equitable future for everyone. \n  \nCome craft flowers and organize auction items on Saturday\, October 11th for El Centro de la Raza’s annual Building the Beloved Community Gala. Take part in an exciting event that raises funds for 43 programs and services that benefit more than 20\,000 individuals and families across our region. This event will take place on at the Seattle Convention center on the 5th floor. \n  \nTogether our small efforts create a large impact especially in today’s political climate where the need is at it’s greatest with inflation and recent attacks against the Latino and Hispanic population. \n  \nTasks will include: Decorating the dining room\, helping set up the silent auction\, set up the registration tables\, and helping with the photo booth. \n  \nLet’s celebrate culture and fight toward equality as we help El Centro de la Raza prepare for another season of giving back to community. \n  \nSign up to our Emerging Leaders 365 newsletter for more ways to start your year of impact!

SUMMARY:Conversations for Change with Timothy Snyder
DESCRIPTION:Author of On Tyranny  to On Freedom\, Timothy Snyder has delved into how to resist fascism and where we go from here.\n\nUnited Way is teaming up with Seattle Arts & Lectures to co-present Timothy Snyder\, the acclaimed historian behind “On Tyranny” and “On Freedom\,” on October 26 at Benaroya Hall (S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium). \nFreedom is the great American commitment\, but we have lost sight of what it means. Too many of us look at freedom as the absence of state power\, argues Timothy Snyder: We think we’re free if we can do and say as we please\, and protect ourselves from government overreach. But true freedom isn’t so much freedom from as freedom to—the freedom to thrive\, to take risks for futures we choose by working together. Freedom is the value that makes all other values possible. \nUse code: UWKC20 for 20% off tickets (all in-person or online tickets\, at any level besides Pay what you Want)  \nUnited Way is committed to making all our events as accessible as possible. When you register\, you’ll have an opportunity to indicate any accommodations you need. Please note that a minimum of two weeks’ notice is necessary to arrange some accessibility needs. If you have any questions\, please reach out to eventregistration@uwkc.org.
