Countdown to #United4MLKDay

By United Way of King County, on January 9, 2017 | In Volunteering

Volunteering on MLK Day is an important part of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Thousands of people are volunteering in their communities, supporting fantastic non-profits throughout Seattle and King County. There are only days before the annual MLK Day of Service. Still need a way to give back? Check out the following projects that are still looking for volunteers.

Social Media Rock Stars – For all the tweeters and insta junkies out there, now is the time to rally your followers for a #goodcause. Join our #United4MLKDay team and amplify the working being done in honor of Dr. King with only a few snaps from your phone.

Winterizing Acres—Done with being cooped up inside? Join us in freshening, organizing and cleaning up Acres of Diamonds and reap the reward of heart-melting smiles from the faces of the kids who live there.

Native Forest Restoration at Kubota— Although they may be pretty to look at, invasive species, like ivy, are choking out local, native species. Help push back the invaders and lift up our PNW underdogs alongside the Forterra conservation agency.

Create a Healthy Shoreline at Dumas Bay Sanctuary— No one can think of Washington, without seeing its sandy (well maybe rocky) beaches in the picture. Come out and help clean up this hidden, Puget Sound treasure. Home to one of the largest Blue Heron colonies in the area, we will be there rain or shine to maintain the outdoors and wildlife that are vital to our community.

Empowerment Through Movement Workshop— Come reconnect your body mind and spirit through the power of movement. Open to all ages (ages 7 and up), this experience aims to help you gain confidence and increase self-esteem, all while having fun moving and grooving to your own beat.

Nothing here grab your attention? Don’t fear! There are many more projects spanning January 12th-16th available right here!

Already signed up? Because to follow along and share progress of your project using #United4MLKDay.
