CONVERSATIONS FOR CHANGE

From Crisis to Community: Uniting to Address Hunger in Washington

Being the second-largest food-producing state in the nation doesn’t make Washington immune to an alarming rate of food insecurity—especially with significantly more SNAP restrictions in place and the continuing rise in grocery prices.

Join United Way of King County as we convene an online panel of experts, innovators, activists, and mobilizers who will address the current state of hunger, provide a preview of 2027, and illustrate how our community is coming together across sectors to rise to the challenge. Come away with new connections and community-grounded ideas to make a tangible impact.

Panelists:

  • Haley Ballenger, Community Health Senior Consultant at Kaiser Permanente Washington
  • Kristi Brown, Chef & Owner of Communion
  • Stephanie Cole, Vice President of Strategy and Impact at Food Lifeline
  • Jen Otten, Associate Professor in the University of Washington Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences and faculty researcher with the UW Center for Public Health Nutrition
  • Roxana Pardo Garcia, Executive Director of Alimentando Al Pueblo
  • Amanda Sandoval, Director of Systems Change & Public Policy at United Way of King County
  • Sara Seelmeyer, Director of Ending Hunger at United Way of King County

Moderator: Regina Malveaux, Chief Impact Officer, United Way of King County

Hope to see you October 7 on Zoom!
