Stock
Own stock, mutual funds, or have stock options available through your employer? Make a great gift with greater impact while enjoying a double tax advantage when you give to United Way via stock.
When you give the gift of stock to United Way, you can avoid paying capital gains tax incurred if you sell the stock rather than when it’s gifted. Plus, you’ll be eligible for a deduction from the full fair-market value of the stock you donated from your income taxes, as allowed by the IRS.
Complete a pledge form and mail or fax a Stock Transfer Authorization letter to your broker and to United Way of King County. Here’s a sample letter you can use.

Donor Advised Funds
Requesting a grant from your Donor Advised Fund as a gift to United Way is a simple, straight-forward, and tax-efficient process.

If you don’t already have a Donor Advised Fund but are still interested in getting a full tax deduction and deciding where to direct the funds later, please contact your financial advisor or Jennifer Trice at (206) 461-3245 or jtrice@uwkc.org.

IRA Charitable Rollover
By naming United Way as a retirement account beneficiary, you can continue using your money when you’re living, change your mind should your situation change, and have a lasting impact on your community now and into the future.
Life insurance gifts are another cost-effective way to make a future contribution, reducing your income tax.
If you are 70.5 years or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your IRA allows you to contribute to a charitable organization without paying income tax.
If a charitable rollover makes sense for you, please contact Jennifer Trice at (206) 461-3245 or jtrice@uwkc.org for more information.
Crypto
Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and more can rapidly surge in value. Selling them for regular currency may trigger taxes. By donating appreciated crypto to United Way, you can avoid taxes and maximize impact, especially for those with substantial gains. Holding crypto for over a year may lead to federal tax deductions up to the full gift value.

If a crypto gift makes sense for you, please contact Jennifer Trice at (206) 461-3245 or jtrice@uwkc.org for more information.
