“I had a great time participating in the [volunteering] event with Microsoft and United Way of King County and learned a lot more about the various programs United Way of King County runs. There was a strong community effort in assembling kits for college students, which was both rewarding and fun being among all the volunteers.”

FAQs
How many people can volunteer?
Our group sizes begin at 15 volunteers, but we can scale up the projects to match your group size. In your project request form, include how many volunteers you have.
Why does this cost money?
At United Way of King County, we’re committed to creating meaningful, well-organized volunteer experiences that truly benefit the community. That means sourcing quality materials, dedicating staff time to plan and lead the events, and ensuring every project aligns with real community needs. These costs help ensure that each experience is high-impact, purposeful, and sustainable—not just a one-time event, but part of a larger movement toward equity and justice.
How did you choose the volunteer opportunities listed on the menu?
Every kit and experience on the menu is designed in collaboration with our community partners. We listen closely to what’s actually needed—whether it’s supplies for students, hygiene kits for unsheltered neighbors, or resources for families—and we build from there. Our goal is to make sure every volunteer experience directly supports community-identified priorities while also creating a meaningful experience for your team.
Can we buy our own materials?
The pricing includes a donation to our work to support the programming that works in conjunction with the recipients of the kits as well as to help offset the administrative work that goes in to identifying community need, managing the relationships with the nonprofits and providing additional backend support as well as ordering supplies.
If you would like to purchase items directly, we’d ask that you identify an organization and work with them directly to help create kits specific to their needs.
How far in advance should we reach out to plan a volunteer event?
We recommend reaching out at least 4 weeks in advance. This gives our team time to coordinate logistics, order and assemble materials, and ensure the experience is tailored to both your team’s goals and community needs. If you’re planning a larger event or have a specific date in mind, the earlier the better!
