AmeriCorps VISTAs Can Make Homelessness Rare, Brief and One-Time
All Home, a partner of United Way of King County, is a community-wide partnership to make homelessness rare, brief and one-time. It brings together local governments, religious institutions, non-profits, philanthropic organizations, shelter and housing providers, the private sector and engaged citizens in a coordinated effort that both responds to the immediate crisis of homeless individuals and addresses the root causes of the problem in our region.
The One Night Count in King County tallied 3,772 people living unsheltered, on sidewalks, in cars, and tents on January 23, 2015. Another 6,275 people were in shelter or transitional housing and still considered homeless by HUD definition. In November 2015, Mayor Murray and Executive Constantine declared State of Emergency regarding homelessness .
Over the next year, All Home and homeless services in King County will be undergoing a large shift in the way they coordinate homeless housing and employment services through the Coordinated Entry and Access (CEA) system for all populations.
You can be part of the solution for people experiencing homelessness in King County.
The Coordinated Entry and Economic Opportunities Specialist AmeriCorps VISTA position at All Home will transform lives by improving the system to connect people experiencing homelessness to all the services they need no matter their entry point. By coordinating services, we can get a better sense of how many families, youth and adults are experiencing homelessness. We can learn what type of interventions work for whom. We can pursue equity in the way people and families access homeless housing services. This is incredible exciting and innovative work that will directly impact the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness.
All Home is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA with a strong sense of social justice and racial equity around the issue of homelessness. Someone who will challenge their way of thinking about homelessness and the way society can “solve” homelessness. All Home has a collaborative, supportive environment and seeks a candidate who is able to ask questions, try new skills and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
If you are interested in systems improvement and supporting innovative changes, this is the right time to join All Home!
