So we have this goal around feeding healthy food to kids. We want to give all kids easy ways to eat well, grow up healthy, and ultimately graduate and make a successful start on adulthood.

Schools meals play a critical role in all of this. When kids eat well, they learn well too. But school meal programs have applications and income requirements that would make any parent go cross-eyed.

That’s where United Way comes in. We’re investing in the Fuel Your Future Campaign, where staff talk with parents and kids about what’s available for school and summer meals, food stamps and food banks and how to get signed up. It also includes summer meals, which have seen nothing but awesomeness. Summer meals sites (well, more like the loads of AmeriCorps and interns running them!) served over 1 million free meals to kids in the last two summers alone.

Sponsored by the Seattle Seahawks and many others, the AmeriCorps teams are specifically in school districts with high poverty levels. Staff cut through the mumbo-jumbo so struggling parents get the most important question answered: How do I make sure my child doesn’t go hungry?

With 1 in 5 kids in our state regularly at risk of going hungry, this is a good problem to solve. Now our question to you: How much do you know about nutrition?

Like us on Facebook, take the quiz and share the quiz with your friends! You’ll be glad you did.
