Conversations for Change: Preventing Homelessness

May 29 11:45 AM-1:00 PM
Zoom virtual event

Join us for an afternoon of learning about King County’s housing ecosystem, its barriers to entry, and how we can work to prevent homelessness.

You know how cut-throat Seattle’s housing market can be; now imagine you’re trying to secure a lease while already unhoused… We believe preventing homelessness in the first place is one of the best ways to tackle the homelessness crisis.

Join us at Conversations for Change: Preventing homelessness, a FREE, interactive, lunchtime discussion with our special guest Shkëlqim Kelmendi, the founder and executive director of Housing Connector.

Kelmendi and his family immigrated to the United States as refugees following the Kosovo war. His experience growing up in a society torn by war and navigating a new country fuels his personal and professional commitment to serving his community. In 2020, Housing Connector was recognized as a Fast Company World Changing Idea and Shkëlqim was selected as a Puget Sound Business Journal Innovator of the Year.

Kelmendi and Gordon McHenry, Jr., President and CEO of United Way of King County, will delve into King County’s housing ecosystem and share more about how we’re coming together to help people overcome barriers to access and retain housing.

United Way is committed to making all our events as accessible as possible. When you register, you’ll have an opportunity to indicate any accommodations you may need. Please note that a minimum of two weeks’ notice is necessary to arrange some accessibility needs. If you have any questions, please reach out to eventregistration@uwkc.org.
