From January 13th through April 18th, 2020, the Free Tax Preparation Campaign offers free, walk-in tax preparation assistance and provides clients additional support for Census and other resources at Seattle Public Library, Central Branch. Scroll down to see more info!

Time Commitment for a Census and Benefits Navigator:

Volunteers commit to attending a weekly, 3 hour shift during tax season. If the shift time below does not work for you, check out this website for more options: bit.ly/uwkc_navigators

Volunteer shifts at Seattle Central Library are:
  • Tuesdays, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Below you will find date and time of the first day of your weekly shift. This date and time will correspond to your shift choice for the rest of the season.

        • January 14th: Tuesday

For example:

Shift begins on Jan. 14th @ 3:30 pm, duration: 3 hours.

This means your shift will be every Tuesday, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Training Requirements:
No prior Census or public benefits experience is necessary!

Census and Benefits Navigators are required to attend one day of in-person training. United Way provides a comprehensive training on the intake procedure for clients, the screening process for benefits eligibility and how to help clients prepare for the 2020 Census Questionnaire, including question navigation.
