Kathy Surace-Smith is the Vice President and General Counsel of NanoString Technologies Inc., Seattle, WA, a provider of life science tools for translational research and developer of molecular diagnostics. She has served on the Board of Trustees of United Way of King County since 2011 and will be Chair of the Board in 2017-18. She also serves on the boards of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the YWCA of King and Snohomish Counties and The Tateuchi Center, a proposed performing arts center in Bellevue.  She served as co-chair with her husband of the 2010-11 fundraising campaign for the United Way and as co-chair of the 2012 King County Parks Levy Task Force .  She is a graduate of Columbia University School of Law and Princeton University.  She and her husband Brad Smith have two young adult children.
