High Five, Microsoft

By United Way of King County, on October 13, 2017 | In Emerging Leaders 365, Volunteering

You know what’s impressive? Microsoft’s annual GIVE campaign and all the time, talent and money their employees given during the month of October. Not to mention the great work they do in communities all year long.

We’re equally impressed by Microsoft’s Emerging Leaders: Young professionals who are giving, volunteering and taking action. There are more than 800 Emerging Leaders at Microsoft right now—a force to be reckoned with! Emerging Leaders come together for volunteer projects, to learn from incredible leaders, and to leverage Microsoft’s generous 1:1 matching program by donating to the organizations and causes they care about (like United Way).

Just last month Emerging Leaders joined Zeno, a local nonprofit working to inspire children’s competence and confidence in math, for a volunteer project where they created early learning games. Hundreds of game packs were constructed for preschool kids throughout King County to make sure they start kindergarten ready to learn math.

The Emerging Leaders group is about more than just one and done project though. As Microsoft’s Luis Masieri says, “This year, Emerging Leaders at Microsoft are volunteering their time and money for the Reconnecting Youth program. This program will help us ensure that teens and young adults in King county can graduate high school, and set them on a path to obtain a job or attend college. We’re very excited about this work!”

They’ve also taken over a full shift at a Free Tax site where they’ll help low-income individuals and families keep more of what they’ve earned by providing free tax preparation every week during tax season. Each of those volunteers will log 50 hours in just a few months!

Coming up, Emerging Leaders will be rubbing elbows with Microsoft’s Chief Financial Officer, Amy Hood at a Speaker Series event.

High fives all around Microsoft. Thanks for being a leader in our community, and thank you for using that leadership for good.

If you’re a Microsoft Emerging Leader and want in on this awesomeness, you can donate any time here!
