From Our Interim CEO: Embracing the Light

By United Way of King County, on March 11, 2026 | In Advocacy, Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, News

I know that life is cyclical, as are the seasons, yet I still get so excited for more daylight.

It’s not just the daylight itself; it’s also the beauty of the Pacific Northwest that I get to clearly see because of the daylight.

I anticipate seeing the beauty. When the sun rises, the beauty never fails to be present. For every dark season, light will return.

I hold on to the reality of how darkness comes and goes, and how light returns. In many ways, it is what powers my desire to keep going and do work that brings me joy and contributes to the community.

There are so many things happening around us in our community. There is a lot of great work happening, and darkness also exists.

However, in my lifetime, at 51, I have seen more light than darkness.

I know life is cyclical. I know these days will pass, and better days are ahead. I sit in that reality, lead through the dark days, and keep my eyes fixed on what lies ahead.
