Join United Way of King County Emerging Leaders in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in partnership with the Accelerator YMCA!
The Y is a nonprofit like no other. Since 1973, the Accelerator YMCA has been a catalyst sparking youth and young adults to take risks to create innovative solutions to the challenges facing our city and our world. Last year, Accelerator served over 10,000 teens and young adults with its programs.
For this project, we will gather at their Downtown branch location for a time of education and outreach. The goal of this event is to discuss the importance of MLK Jr.’s legacy and how we continue to effectively help those marginalized groups in our community. We will then utilize the time to watch a relevant and important documentary. The viewing will be followed by a group discussion and debrief. Following the facilitated conversation, our volunteers will get to participate in the Seattle’s annual MLK march (which is right next to our Downtown location). They will get to hand out Y swag, snacks and water to participants in the march.
Light food and refreshments will be provided during this time for our volunteers.
