Get healthy food to hungry hands with Food Lifeline
October 18, 2016 @ 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm
Here at United Way, we believe that hunger is a problem we can help solve – and it’s with great partners like Food Lifeline that we’re making strides towards achieving that goal. Food Lifeline works with the food industry and its surpluses to come up with creative solutions to stopping hunger, including redirecting good food from manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores and restaurants that might otherwise go to waste. The organization provides 91,000 meals per day to local food assistance programs, and that, combined with policy work, creates a sustainable approach to stopping hunger.
Each year, Food Lifeline sorts through 40 million pounds of food. Inspecting and packing this food takes a lot of hands! Emerging Leaders will assist with inspection, sorting and repacking donations for distribution to the network of 275 hunger relief partners across Western Washington. Email Cassandra to be one pair of those helping hands.
