Volunteer and Learn is an opportunity for a more in-depth volunteer experience. Participants learn from experts on the issue, then roll up their sleeves and help out as hands-on volunteers.
Have you ever wondered how United Way (and other funders) decide which nonprofit organizations will receive grants? Explore grant-making from the inside out with a community services expert and work with fellow volunteers to select nonprofit agency recipients for service grants. These grants will support volunteering projects on or around Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January 2024.
Note that this is a multiple day volunteering opportunity and participants will need to commit to the following schedule:
Wednesday 11/15 (6:15-7:15PM), virtual. A meeting invitation will be sent to all registrants prior to the session.
- Introduction to United Way of King County & MLK Day of Service
- Grantmaking with a racial equity lens
November 15th-29th participants review grants
Saturday 12/02 (10AM-12PM), In person @ El Centro de la Raza in Beacon Hill (2524 16th Ave S. Seattle, WA 98144)
- Grantmaking discussion and determination
- Pastries and coffee will be provided
By signing up for this project you are committing to participating in both sessions and reviewing grant applications between the first and second meeting.
