We Are in These Streets—With Byrd Barr Place

By United Way of King County, on October 18, 2024 | In Events, News, Racial Equity

United Way of King County is out and about in the community! We’re keeping an eye and a pulse on happenings, events, organizations, and activities throughout King County—and beyond—as we work side by side with communities and partners to achieve an equitable future for everyone.

We’re in These Streets is a blog post that highlights your community. Here are scenes from Byrd Barr Place’s 60th Diamond Gala at the Seattle Fairmont Olympic Hotel. The event featured guest Angela Davis, an activist, scholar, feminist, and social justice icon. Davis was also honored by Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell.

Byrd Barr Place is a Seattle-based organization that helps local residents with basic needs such as home heating assistance, housing support, healthy food access, and personal finance education.

It is a member of the Black Community Building Collective, a group of 14 Black nonprofit organizations that use United Way funding to share best practices and support the long-term viability of King County’s Black community.
