Capturing a Moment in Time – Community Resource Exchange

By United Way of King County, on April 8, 2016 | In Fighting Homelessness

Anthony and Mary are trying to figure out next steps in their lives including finding jobs, but say one thing is for certain.

“We’re in love.”

When they saw a photographer taking portraits at United Way’s Community Resource Exchange, their eyes lit up, realizing it was the perfect opportunity to capture their feelings for each other.

The annual, one-day event also allowed Anthony, Mary, and hundreds of other homeless adults and youth to be connected to critical resources like housing services, employment counseling, and computer lab, all under one roof.

Anthony summed up his experience at the Community Resource Exchange: “It’s a one stop shop to get us out of the situation that we’re in.”

Mary paid a visit to one of the many hair stylists volunteering their time and talent.

“I got a wonderful haircut, everybody’s been helpful.”

Anthony also spent some time in the dental chair to address a tooth issue.

“It’s a little sore but they did a great job. It was really pretty fast and pretty pain-free, so just great.”

Anthony and Mary finished their day at Community Resource Exchange with a photo in their hand and hope in their hearts.
